History & Mission
WITH THIS RING is a bittersweet venture, borne of a swirl of tragedy and celebration: As the diversity conversation reaches our country's highest office, there has never been a better time to declare a national commitment to equality and freedom.
Yet just a few years ago, a close friend of this magazine found his home life unsympathetically shredded on an immigration technicality.
Had these loving partners been able to marry with full legal parity, two great Americans would still be living here, contributing to our profound—but often unactualized—potential for human rights leadership. MORE...
Fashion
Oh, the tuxedos and dresses—from whites and reds and violets to every flair in between...the beauty of fashion pulses at the breathtaking heart of every type of commitment ceremony (wedding, marriage, civil union, or otherwise).
Religious and intimate; grandiose and extravagant; in a castle on a cliff, beachside, or jumping out of a plane, every ceremony's essence uniquely reflects the personalities and fantasties of the couple involved.
Our coverage would be incomplete without a showcase of the many options facing both brides and grooms. MORE...
Legal Issues
A contant flux of legal and moral rights facing a large (but thankfully, shrinking) portion of American society is among the marriage equality community's greatest struggles.
Is America the "home of the free" only for some?
As the praiseworthy toil of Lambda Legal, FreedomtoMarry.org and others concretize marriage equality, myriad associated rights—especially federal ones—remain complex and, in a tragic number of cases, elusive.

Workplace Issues
Our colleague magazine The Advocate annually publishes a list of companies that embrace equality writ large, whether in hiring practices or employment benefits.
But a major misconception held by too many of our fellow activists is that these advancements can somehow be split from marriage equality. Marriage rights per se becomes an extension and actualization of so-called "partner" benefits.
Only together can such a collection of rights equate to TRUE Equality.

Romance
To touch a lover's hand, taste of his or her lips...does such joy and peace concern whether the beneficiary of such affection is of the or different gender? That he or she is black or white? Able to see, hear, or walk elegantly?
WITH THIS RING holds fast to the knowledge that love is forever, meaningful, destined.
And that the universe doesn't care a lick about the chromomal makeup of the partners engaged.
Family Matters
In conversations with members of our community, we have often been struck by the divergent thoughts about a link between marriage and family as a life goal.
GLBT and straight couples alike view weddings as the threshold of an elevated bond (Jews, for example, view the marital canopy—as an open doorway to a conjoined life). But not everyone has the time, desire, or ability to have kids. Others place priority on other marriage benefits (say, citizenship or health care).
But all agree that every couple deserves the right to raise children, if it chooses to do so. MORE...
